I eventually did get the opportunity to snorkel over to one of the islands. There were some larger fish in the deeper portions of the channel, but it didn't get that deep and is just about walkable at low tide.

Some pretty mountains as seen from the walk. We were looking for some kind of ancient palace, but as with nearly everything on the map, it doesn't seem to exist.

Me in front of the northern part of Muri Beach. Is it just me, or do I kind of look Polynesian in this photo if you glace at it fast enough?

According to the map, this was where the vaka departed for Aotearoa (New Zealand) to settle the last major landmass where humans have never set foot on. I expected there to be something commemorating the occasion here, but it appeared to be someone's house.
