26 May 2011:

Back at Jérôme's place in Anse Vata, Nouméa, just in time to watch the soft colours of a beautiful sunset. Nouméa has a lively and cozy night-life scene in "La BD" (Baie de Citrons), and an active nakamal scene as well, with some very cozy hangouts.

26 May 2011:

We took the road crossing the hills leading to Bourail, and I treated Dominique to lunch there for driving me back. There were some nice views of rolling hills, colder-temperature foliage and mist. Not something you think of when thinking of a tropical island in the South Pacific.

26 May 2011:

It was quite a long drive, and we talked a lot about life in general and life in NC, Guadaloupe, and French Guyana. Apparently things have changed a lot. Dominique also told me about how NC still runs on a "colonial" economy, as a few families control pretty much everything here, and according to him, price fixing is rampant. Also, I found it strange and for an island off the coast of Australia, most of the milk I saw here was imported from France.

26 May 2011:

After a while, we are off! One last view of the Linderalique cliffs as we drive away.

26 May 2011:

Met up with Dominique again, as he was planning on heading to Nouméa today for a trip to Ouvéa. Waiting at his house while he figures out if his flight is cancelled due to rains, I saw some cool egg sacs a spider was protecting.

26 May 2011:

Hitching a ride out with some tourists leaving this morning, we immediately ran into a problem. The "bridge" has turned into a small waterfall of sorts. After some more arranging and waiting for the water levels to recede, we decided it was safe to cross.
